About Google AI Studio

Google AI Studio is Google's web workspace for developers working with the Gemini family of models. Google describes it as "the fastest path from prompt to production with Gemini."

What you can do

  • Prompt playground: try text, image, audio and video prompts against current Gemini models, and compare settings such as temperature and system instructions.
  • Long context: work with very long inputs; Google advertises a context window of up to 1 million tokens.
  • Get an API key: create a Gemini API key and export your prompt as code to move into your own app.
  • Build apps and agents: prototype small apps from a prompt in the Build and agent playgrounds.
  • Prompt gallery with examples of what Gemini can do.

Cost

Using AI Studio requires a Google account. The Gemini API has a free tier with rate limits; some of the newest models are not on the free tier, and paid tiers raise limits and pricing follows usage.

AI Studio vs. the Gemini app

AI Studio is aimed at people building with the API. For everyday chat, use the consumer Gemini app. For research with your own sources, see NotebookLM.
