About Lychee

Lychee is a free, open-source (MIT) photo-management system you run on your own server or web space. Install it in seconds (Docker Compose is the recommended path), then upload, organize, search and share photos from a browser as if you were using a native app. Your files stay on your machine — no storage caps and no forced compression.

Features

  • Manage: upload, move, rename, describe, delete and search albums and photos from one place.
  • Share: publish albums or individual photos with one click, or lock albums behind a password.
  • View: fullscreen browsing with keyboard navigation; EXIF and IPTC metadata shown beside each photo.
  • Import: bring photos from your computer, the server, a URL or Dropbox.
  • Tags and favorites: tag photos or mark them as important so they don't get lost in deep albums.
  • Docker-first: official images on GHCR and Docker Hub, plus a minimal compose template for a quick try at http://localhost:8000.

Editions

The core app is free forever. An optional Supporter Edition (SE) unlocks extra features for sponsors; see the project site for what's included.

Languages

The UI ships with many locales, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese (zh_CN, zh_TW).
